Abstract

Two new fossil woods described hue were collected from near Kalagarh, Uttar Pradesh at the foot hills of the Himalayas which are reported to be of Mio-Pliocene age. Both these woods show closest resemblance with the genus Vateria of the family Dipterocarpaceae. However, there are differences between the two and therefore two species of the new genus Vaterioxylon, viz., Vaterioxylon kalagarherzse sp. nov. and Vaterioxylon miocenecum sp. nov. have been created for these woods.
