Abstract

A reconstruction of Chacassopteris mongolica from the Lower Carboniferous period is given. The Chacassopteris leaf is discussed in its morphological relations to Archaeopteris, Coenopteridales, Ginkgo and Polygala. Chacassopteris is regarded as a Lower Carboniferous intermediate from (missing link) which connects Archaeopteris with the Ferns and Ginkgophytes and perhaps also with the Pteridosperms and Angiosperms.
